The past couple of weeks I have really been lacking motivation to work out and it started when I was running my boot camp 3 weeks ago. I was throwing a medicine ball straight up in the air as hard as I could and I ended up hurting my shoulder. I think I strained or pulled a muscle in my rotator cuff. Lesson learned is this is not a natural movement and I won’t ever do that again! Anyways, with my shoulder hurting I have not had any motivation to work out. Granted I do need to let it rest and recover but I could still be working lower body and doing cardio. I have been doing some cardio and lower body exercises but it has been really tough to get up and actually do them. We are also putting new flooring in our house so the free time I have I am working on the flooring. Exercise is something I am passionate about and I enjoy doing it but I am not always pumped up to go work out. The funny thing is as soon as I start working out I get over the mindset and I’m enjoying it again.
With the long rant aside, I’m here to tell you that it is perfect ok if you lack motivation to exercise. Especially if you don’t even like it but you know you need to do it to get fit and healthy. Just thinking about going for a walk or going to the gym is enough to make some people shudder, let alone doing it for 5-6 times a week. Sitting on the couch would be so much easier, but easy is not always the best thing, especially when it comes to your health. It’s easy to eat fast food instead of cooking yourself, it’s easy to take the elevators instead of the stairs, it’s easy to lay down in bed all day, it’s easy to veg out on the couch all day, and doing these things over and over will lead to a sedentary life.
I’m not saying its ok to take it easy but only do it on rare occasions, as long as you are active most of the time and making smart nutritional choices most of the time, then the rare slip ups won’t matter that much. I mean you’ve still got to live a little, you can’t be health nut 24x7x365, you will go crazy.
So if you’re lacking motivation for whatever reason, that’s ok and don’t beat yourself up about it. Just try to make some time to work out and exercise. Keep positive thoughts and tell yourself you will get back into the routine, you’re just stumbling a little bit right now.
