Your guide to staying fit while traveling

“We all deserve a little wanderlust”
If you rarely travel and you are going for less than a week, then enjoy your vacation! Don’t worry about your diet or exercise, make sure that you savor your food and you enjoy it! You can focus on making smarter choices and try to make it a point to get out walk around every day while you are exploring.
However, if you travel a lot and you are planning on being gone for more than a week then this article is for you.
Summer is around the corner and most of us will soon be traveling. You may travel for business, pleasure, vacation or just to escape from the day to day conformities of life. It may be a trip to a nearby amusement park or to a whole different continent, whatever it may be, this change will certainly affect your fitness routine. If you’re used to working out at a gym, suddenly you won’t have access to one. Your sleep patterns will be completely ruined because of the differences in the time zones. Which will be combined by the “I’m on a vacation” state of mind and you’ll somehow convince yourself that it’s okay hog on junk food for a while which will later make you gain more than 5 pounds by the end of your vacation.
Is there any hope? Is it possible to ‘have it all’?
There is indeed…………
Where ever you go, look for the following:
Pull up bar (children’s park)
A building or bus stop over hang
A solid tree branch
Two parallel benches (bench dips)
Desk or table (bodyweight rows)
Use your own creativity to find other things you can use for working out.
The equipment’s mentioned below don’t take up much space and can get you an amazing workout in a matter of minutes:
A jump rope
Resistance band
Grip crushers
A heart rate monitor to estimate the calories you’re burning
These take up less room than a hair drier and are the most efficient tools for working out.
Incorporate simple full body workout routines whenever you can find time. Know the difference between simple and easy. 5 sets of 10 pull ups is simple, not easy.
Why full body workouts? You may not find time to work out every single day, so even if you miss out a day or two, it won’t matter much compared to someone who does separate body parts everyday-miss one day and the whole schedule goes out of the window.
NUTRITION
When it comes down to nutrition, you must MAKE EATING A PRIORITY. Hit the grocery store before you go the hotel and buy healthy non-perishable snacks like oatmeal. The hot water you make using a coffee maker can be used for making easy ready to eat breakfast meals. Stack up your fridge with precooked healthy meals, fruits and yogurt and try to have healthy snacks with your booze so that you’re able to cut down on all excessive calories.
Having a healthy diet may be expensive at times. For this, you’ll have to cut down on your other budgets, so plan accordingly and plan in advance.
Also, learn to compensate. There may be times when you’ll be travelling with friends or a certain other group of people who eat fried foods and drink gallons of beer. Compensate by being extra diligent on the days before and after.
KEEP MOVING
And lastly, STAY ACTIVE! You’re on a vacation. Don’t just sit around in your hotel room and watch T.V all day. You can do that once you’re back home. Go out, explore or walk around the city, just find a way to be active.
Make sure you relax. Even if you’re able to get 10-15 minutes of working out every day along with a decent diet, you’ll at least be able to maintain the same weight you left at. It’s summer time, be good to your body and ENJOY!!!
