Stuck in a rut? Change it up.
If you have ever been in a plateau or found yourself bored while exercising it might be time to change up your routine. It is important to stick with the same workout for a set amount of time, so your body is able to get good at the workout but it’s also important to change up your routine, so you don’t plateau. Doing a new routine will give your body a reason to change and adapt. It will also be something new and exciting if you have become bored with your workout.
The level of change is completely up to you, it could be something as simple as changing the reps and sets of a weightlifting session or doing something entirely different. For example, if you have been running outside for months and you start to dread your runs because you feel stiff and tight all the time, then doing Yoga for a few months might be a good change. Exercising and working out can be anything you want it to be, the modality is not important. As long as it is purposeful movement outside of your daily activity then it is exercise. The important thing is to change it up every once in a while, so your body does not adapt, and you stop making progress.
There is not a specific amount of time because this varies for everyone, but you should listen to your body. When you feel like you have plateaued or you no longer enjoy it, then it’s time for a change.
