Meal Prep
The #1 reason my healthy eating habits are successful is because of meal prep! When I don’t have a meal ready to eat, and I have to order food somewhere my willpower is weak. I have good intentions on ordering something healthy but my taste buds get the best of meal and I order something that sounds delicious instead of healthy. When I meal prep, I always have a healthy meal that I can throw in the microwave and heat up quickly. Plus, I know exactly what is in my food because I made it. I have control over all of the ingredients and also the quality of food.
Every weekend I buy several pounds of beef or chicken from the grocery store. When I get home, I season the meat and put it in the refrigerator to marinade for several hours. After it is done marinating, I BBQ the meat, if barbecuing is not an option you can bake it in the oven or cook it on the stove in a skillet. I like the taste of BBQ the best. After the meat is cooked, I separate it out into several Tupperware containers and put them in the refrigerator. Protein is the most time-consuming thing to make because it needs to be cooked. If you have protein ready to go, you will be prepared to make healthier choices like eating real food instead of bars or shakes.
Now the only thing left to make is the side dish to go along with your protein. For lunches and dinner, I like to eat my protein with raw plain vegetables. When I am getting ready for work in the morning, I throw several handfuls of raw plain vegetables in a pot of water and simmer them on the stove for 20 minutes. I have found that boiled vegetables agree with my digestive system a lot better than uncooked vegetables. Once the vegetables are cooked, throw them into another Tupperware container. Tip, you can buy big bags of frozen mixed vegetables cheaper than fresh vegetables. Just make sure to buy the plain non-sauced vegetables.
That’s it. You can get creative and make different meals into separate Tupperware containers. I like simple and easy, so protein and vegetables work great for me. 5 days is about the maximum amount of time I would keep anything in the refrigerator after its been cooked. If you think it will be longer than 5 days, then put it in the freezer.
