90/10 rule
I don’t make healthy choices every time I eat, but I do make healthy choices more often than I make unhealthy choices. I like to go by the 90/10 rule. 90% of the time I make healthy food choices, the other 10% of the time I am more relaxed on what I eat. Most of my foods are whole nutritious and minimally processed. I find this approach works great for real life with birthday parties, special occasions, family dinners, children, going out, and many other scenarios where you can’t stick to a perfect diet. I don’t believe that life should revolve around your diet. I believe that your diet should revolve around your life. There needs to be a balance between health and enjoyment. This is why the 90/10 rule works beautifully in my opinion. For example, if you eat 3 meals a day, then you will eat 21 meals in a week. If you follow the 90/10 rule, that means 2 meals a week you eat whatever you want, the other 19 meals are healthy. So, on Friday and Saturday nights you can go out to dinner and not have to worry about what you are ordering. Just make sure that the next meal you eat is a balanced meal of whole nutritious minimally processed foods.
