Today wasn’t a great day, but tomorrow will be a better day. I heard this on a podcast that I listen to and I thought it relates perfectly to life, especially fitness. There will always be days that are not great concerning nutrition and exercise. There will be days where you barely eat and when you do eat, it’s fast food, junk food, and sweet sugary treats. You didn’t exercise at all and you barely got 1,000 steps. Don’t even get started on water, the only water that you consumed for the whole day, was the water that’s included in coffee, sodas, and juice.
Most people will say that this was a total failure and beat themselves up over it. I challenge you to change your way of thinking. Don’t say that you failed, instead, say that you didn’t have a great day, but tomorrow will be a better day. Saying that you failed puts you in the mindset that you can’t ever do better, and you will never succeed. There is no failing with nutrition and exercise because you always have another day to do better. You always get a second chance and a clean slate to do better than what you did yesterday.
This also lowers expectations that you have inadvertently placed on yourself. You will never be successful if you set your standards so high that you never have a realistic chance of achieving them. When you think in terms of failure or success you only have two outcomes; you either win or you lose. This behavior is not a good relationship with yourself or with food. You didn’t lose, you just didn’t have a great day, but tomorrow will be a better day!
